Join with friends of the of the Michigan City Historical Society for an afternoon of family fun as we welcome author Kathy Groth to the Old Lighthouse Museum for a special shipwreck program on Wednesday, June 19, from 1:00pm until 4:00pm.
Kathy, who lives in northern Wisconsin with her husband, Chuck, taught elementary school for many years. After retirement she began sharing her love of children’s literature by creating colorful books to inspire curiosity and wonder in children of all ages.
Kathy is currently on a circle tour of Lake Michigan promoting her newest book “Sunken; Shipwrecks of Lake Michigan”. Through the pages of this book Kathy invites young people and anyone interested in the stories of ships lost in the waters of Lake Michigan, to explore some of its most famous shipwrecks.
The story is presented through the eyes of two young people; Chase and his new friend Bri who happens to have an incredible knowledge about the ships, storms and heroes of the Great Lakes. The two friends begin a time travel adventure that takes them back to the days of some of the most horrific wrecks in the history of Lake Michigan. Though Bri’s eyes Chase, and the reader are able to experience the final hours of each ship and the fate of the passengers and crews.
Kathy will join us at the Old Lighthouse Museum to sign her books, which will be available for purchase. She has also created special activities for young people for the afternoon that will celebrate our Great Lake and all of the heroes who have sailed upon it.
